The Health Language® (HLI) Language Engine™ (LE) provides a state-of-the-art updating and modeling environment that allows users to update, map, search, browse, localize and extend content. This software uses APIs to connect to .NET, WebServices, JAVA, and EJB environments. The database APIs operate with Oracle, SQL Server and Cache.

The LE solution accelerates the incorporation of controlled medical vocabularies, coding standards, corresponding maps, and other terminology-related content into healthcare IT applications. Additionally, LE enables this diverse content to be managed and delivered alongside local customizations and within their native structures. This speeds integration and reduces maintenance of both sets of content within existing systems.

LExUpdate is the content management module that allows the user to easily load controlled vocabulary content from standards organizations. In addition, the module integrates local enterprise content changes and extensions that must be retained and resolved with those updates, as well as the code-set mappings provided by HLI. The final result is merged content that can be upgraded by future HLI content and software releases while remaining aligned with the standards and minimizing semantic drift.

LExScape is the content modeling module wherein a user manages the lexicon content; develops subsets, conducts code searches and content query; creates mapping models; and resolves content conflicts. The LExScape display consists of the concept display and several panels. All panels are detachable and movable in relation to the concept and relations display. This module also displays terms, term/relation facets, subsets, and all taxonomies and micro-glossaries within the main panel.

A workbench functionality is provided for the drag-and-drop staging area. Almost any object can be dropped onto the workbench for later use. This functionality simplifies common modeling operations such as adding parent/child links or creating lateral relations.

LExPlorer is a browser-based application similar in appearance and functionality to LExScape, providing read-only access to the lexicon content.

LExIndex is the runtime services module, which provides the user with real-time indexing, terminology query, relations traversal and post-coordinated expressions.

Software Development Kit (SDK) provides the ability to further streamline the integration of LE by leveraging pre-developed JAVA and C# code scripts for APIs. LE provides a broad set of open, standards-based API calls that a developer can use to address terminology services requirements within applications. The API calls are identical, regardless of the content being retrieved.

Online Documentation is provided to the administrator as an easily accessible reference for the software technology.
